– Preparation: When you have your VCT floors stripped and waxed, there is a bit of preparation that needs to take place first. You will want to remove all the furniture, rugs and other obstacles from the floor before getting started. Since no one can walk on the floor until the process is complete, there will also be signage that is put in place to warn those that might attempt to walk on the floor.
– Stripping Old Wax: Once the area is prepped, the old wax will be stripping away from the flooring. When you have this done professionally, there is industrial grade stripper that is used to remove the old wax with no problem. It takes about 5-10 minutes for this stripper to do its wonders and remove that old wax from the floor. A machine is used to agitate the surface with an abrasive pad to ensure all the wax is removed.
– Cleaning VCT Floor: The floor will then be thoroughly cleaned to remove any traces of dirt or wax that might be left behind. This will leave the floor as a clean slate for the next wax coating to be put on.
– New Wax Application: Once the surface is completely cleaned, it will need time to dry before the new wax can be applied. The floor has to have no trace of moisture on it. Once it has completely dried, there will be several layers of new, protective wax put on the floor’s surface. Between each layer there will be ample time to allow each layer to dry.
– Buffing VCT Floors: The last and final step in the process is bugging the floor. This enhances the wax’s shine and leaves your floor looking glossy and smooth.
